Wellington Civic Precinct

McIndoe Urban have been commissioned to prepare a masterplan for the Civic Precinct in Wellington. This area includes the collection of notable and civic buildings around the Civic square, including the square itself, City to Sea Bridge, Capital E, Ilott Green and adjoining streets.

To kick start the process a workshop was held with members of the council’s Executive Leadership team to define the issues and challenges facing the precinct and to understand the requirements around WCC workspace. The November 2016 earthquake has brought the need for development and repair around the square to the fore and now provides opportunities to address improvements and to create stronger connections that can support a more vibrant space.

Hutt City CBD Spatial Plan

McIndoe Urban has recently been appointed by Hutt City Council (HCC) to prepare a spatial plan for the Hutt City CBD. This work is following a successful project working alongside HCC and the Petone 2040 Group to prepare a spatial plan for Petone. This spatial plan will be aimed at reviewing and refreshing council's "CBD Making Places" report, and will describe a coherent, compelling and achievable vision for Hutt City Centre, that is to be the reference for future Council initiatives.

Housing New Zealand Corporation

HNZC is working to bring forward key sites that can deliver a new higher quality, higher density housing solution. Housing need in NZ has changed and no longer is the traditional 3 bed house meeting the current demographic profile of those needing housing support. A shift towards smaller 1 and 2 bed dwellings, as well as larger 5 and 6 bed dwellings is sought. Wellington has a number of well-located, vacant sites in the Hutt Valley and Porirua awaiting development. McIndoe Urban has been engaged by HNZC to developed new high quality medium density masterplans for a number of these and is currently preparing schemes to Preliminary Design for resource consent.

Central Energy Trust Arena

McIndoe Urban have been commissioned to prepare a masterplan for Palmerston North's Central Energy Trust Arena (CETA). Located just 500m to the west of the square, CETA's vision is to make sport activity visible, accessible and inviting within the City and the Manawatu Region. The masterplan aims to achieve this vision with a range of facility upgrades and new projects such as a new main entrance plaza on the corner of Waldegrave and Cuba Sts.

Ferrybank development — Hamilton

McIndoe Urban formed part of the winning competition team with Wraight Athfield Landscape + Architecture for the Ferrybank development, Hamilton’s future premier river destination. We were invited as one of three design teams to produce a development plan, and in early 2016 were selected by an expert evaluation panel as the recommended design and team.
